the thing that means the most to us about throwing these raves is the crowd being filled with all ages and an important amount being that of the younger generation. i personally feel so incredible being able to create a space that the next gen wants to come be apart of, and are able to. in this city there's not much for anyone to do but go to bars and drink. most venues are not all ages, meaning there are not many spaces for people younger than 18 to go see music. the free store being the only one to my knowledge doing all ages punk shows.
being real, its the biggest reason why i continue to put on these shows, to create a space for all ages to experience something other than bar culture. to not be stuck doing drugs at home out of boredom. new years eve meant alot to us. that people decided to spend such an important moment with us. amongst all the happiness i feel about the moments we all shared dancing together and watching fireworks i do want to pay respect to all the lives lost that night in the bourbon street attack. an unfortunate start to the new years. i haven't much else to say, there isn't much else to say that hasn't been said. i do however want to shed light or rather a reminder on the fact that new orleans and Louisiana in general has a large muslim and Palestinian population (we ourselves come from a culturally muslim background) and as a majority red state we must look out for our muslim community right now as they are going to face backlash from the older community through out this time as the attack is being pinned on a 'muslim affiliated' terrorist organization.... i couldnt speak on the bright side of new years eve without mentioning this despair, sorry.
we try our best to make our raves safe spaces and i can only hope everyone feels safe around us.
thank you all for fucking with our shows. more 2 come.
